Between 2008 and 2009, I lived and worked in West Africa for 18 months. During this time, I produced a series of environmental portraits in Ghana and Togo whilst working alongside a human rights and advocacy organisation.
Through the medium of photography, I supported organisations who were engaged in awareness-raising and fact finding work, to document communities being affected by a range of social and environmental challenges. The images were presented alongside written testimonies in reports aimed at increasing public awareness and strengthening accountability amongst decision-makers. Photography also served as tool for the communities to share their own experiences and support their advocacy and change-making efforts at a local level.
